Southern Baptist Sissies

I just read that the play Southern Baptist Sissies is going to be made into a film in 2006. I saw Southern Baptist Sissies here in Lexington a few months ago and it was excellent. The theater was packed and the atmosphere was charged. I think a majority of the folks in attendance, like myself, must have grown up Southern Baptist. The play was very funny with unforgettable characters, yet also sad and disturbing. Most importantly, it really captured what it is like growing up gay and Southern Baptist.

I recommend seeing it -- even better if you can see it performed in the South. In the meantime, you can watch Del Shores's other play that was made into a movie, Sordid Lives.

Southern Baptist sissies

Jamie,
I grew up Southern Baptist, and am a lesbian. My Southern Baptist parents no more accept me than they do black people, Jews, Catholics and anyone not white, or SB. I saw Sordid Lives a week or two ago and thought it was hilarious. I can't wait for SB Sissies. This guy must know whereof he speaks, you know what I mean? :D
