World AIDS Day on Friday, December 1st

Hello all: I have not been able to even read, let alone, post much lately. Very busy but good time. In any case, I wanted to just post a gentle reminder that this Friday, as always on December 1st, is World AIDS Day. Our campus has many activities going on this year, which I am so grateful for. If you can, wear a red ribbon, visit your local events in your community, talk to someone about it, volunteer- do something if you can to raise awareness and send thoughts and prayers to those that need it.

Until there is a cure......... In love and peace, Vanessa

There is good news, in canada their is a new gene therapy for HIV being developed, some of the infected person's healthy T cells are remove and injected with a gene then reinserted in to the body, after reinsertioon, the T cell are able to recognize infected cell and destroy them. It is not going to be ready for human trials for a while,10 years, but its a step closer.

Good to see the attention paid.

CNN's been doing a good job of covering this so far, at least as far as I was/wasn't expecting. Hopefully they'll be replaying these segments throughout the day. Christiane Amanpour was just on talking about the AIDS orphans in Africa, the special she did is being replayed tonight.

I know the radical right via the Bush administration have been requiring ONLY abstinence only "education" in order to receive prevention funding overseas. That's the story I'd like to hear more about, their contribution to the [spread of] AIDS effort.

I agree with this year's coverage.

Both locally and nationally, the coverage does seem to be more extensive this year. I cannot quite figure out why that is, but I did notice. I have been passing flyers out to students on campus like crazy all week, even made my own tee shirt for the day to announce it. I get mostly concerned about the level of apathy regarding the disease. Transmission continues to be a problem in this country, yet awareness and apathy seem to go hand in hand in many ways. Treatment seems to be the option rather than prevention for many people, which is sad to me in a way. Anyway, send thoughts and prayers to all affected today, and get involved and informed if you can. Peace out, Vanessa
