http://dallastaa.ning.com/events/dta...ampaign-thanks DTAA Email campaign thanks Notre Dame for dialogue planetransgender http://planetransgender.blogspot.com...advocates.html The Dallas Transgender Advocates and Allies applauds Notre Dame University for exhibiting determination of free will by initiating dialogue about stem cell research and abortion. Presently the official policy of Catholicism is not to honor or even to hold discourse with those who disagree with Church theology. The invitation to President Obama as the commencement speaker has been confirmed by Notre Dame despite loud disapproval. The Obama administration favors a mix of technology and faith when approaching birth control and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Entire populations in Africa are being forced to adhere to abstinence only by government and religion and are suffering on a scale previously unknown. Kelli Busey of the Dallas Advocates and Allies condoms this practice as genocide as only gay men are refused treatment or preventive education. President Obama's policy is also not acceptable by most of Notre Dame alumni yet favored by nearly all of the graduating class. Source New York Times News Blog When President Obama http://newsinfo.nd.edu/news/11293-pr...cement-address delivers the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame in May, he may face a situation that he has rarely encountered in recent months — many in the audience and outside the hall may have opposed his visit. The university’s invitation to Mr. Obama to deliver the commencement address on May 17, and receive an honorary doctor of laws degree, has ignited http://content.usatoday.com/communit.../03/64571525/1 a backlash, both http://www.ndresponse.com/press.html on campus and off, among opponents of abortion rights and embryonic stem-cell research; Mr. Obama recently http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/10/us...cs/10stem.html lifted a ban on federal financing for both. And it has revived the long-simmering debate over whether a Catholic university should honor someone who does not ascribe to Catholic teachings; in 2004, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops http://www.usccb.org/bishops/catholi...icallife.shtml expressly said that Catholic institutions should not honor those who act “in defiance of our fundamental moral principles.” ******************************** Show Notre Dame that regardless of our beliefs we appreciate open dialogue by sending The Rev. John I. Jenkins, the university’s president a email. Sample email http://president.nd.edu/contact-us feel free to copy and paste it on this link Rev. John I. Jenkins, President Notre Dame University Thank you for your resolve in extending your invitation to President Obama to be the May 17 commencement speaker. We understand that without conversation there only can be conflict and misunderstanding. You have distinguished Notre Dame as a fearless leader for Catholic progressive thinking. Whether the President speaks directly to these controversial issues will not lessen our admiration. We deeply appreciate your courage.
