There are a lot of people (at least in CA) questioning the wisdom of a national march at this time. But if it happens, I will do everything I can to be there.

These folks are also questioning a run at a 2010 or even a 2012 ballot initiative to restore marriage equality. Again, I see both sides and am a bit torn over it myself.

The date of the 2009 march is planned for October 11th which is the 30th anniversary almost to the day of the very first national march on Washington for lesbian and gay rights in 1979.

That would be cool.

However, that's just 16 weeks away so if they're going to pull this off they need to get their asses in gear now and hit the LGBT publications with advertising so that people can start planning the trip to DC.

I will be there.

keep me posted, I'll try to get the time off from work. I have more vacation starting the end of June, so hopefully it will be an option. I really would like to go!

If the 2009 March on Washington is going to happen in October ( just shy of 14 weeks from now) then the movement for the march better get some traction soon. I have seen no articles or media coverage on this effort since the original news release over four weeks ago.

Cleve Jones who called for the march at a rally on May 7th in St. Lake City hasn't been heard from since. He better get his ass in gear and start making some noise about this real soon or LGBT people around the nation will start to lose interest. It's June 25th already.

We need to hear from you Cleve. Talk to us.

There is a website and it's pretty viral on Facebook. I hope Cleve isn't banking on those two things being all that needs to be done. I know many of the GLBT websites have or will be posting information on the march soon, but I think money is going to be a big factor as to turnout. I will be there. I will probably also be helping at least one other person be there.

Here's an idea: pound Cleve with emails and ask him what he is doing to advertise. I am going to be an unhappy camper if I come and there are 5,000 others there instead of 500,000.

And gay people do make things nicer. I've been a member of Regina's gay club for about 5 years. It started out as showing support for the community, and looking for a hangout close to home, and then I discovered how great GLBT people are. They've been so nice to me. That's a big reason I've gotten really active in supporting GLBT causes. I don't want my buddies to be discriminated against.

I'm also the token straight person (the Secretary) on the Executive of a GLBT organization, and the people I deal with there are the coolest folks I've ever worked with.

Awesome Offog! I've been to Regina twice. Both times for the Canadian National Arabian Horse Show (once to show, once to watch). I loved the hotel, we had a large pool in the middle of the hotel complex with two really fun water slides. The people I found to be extremely nice (and interesting), I had my first dill pickle potato chips and I loved the huge park in the middle. Unsure of the name, but I believe the Legislative building was at one end. Lovely and I took lots of pictures.

I have my room reserved (thank you Marriott points!) and a ride (Southwest, my regards). And I'm hopefully bringing someone - my wife will not likely go, but the wonderful woman who officiated at our wedding may. Hope to see as many of you as can make it!!

I will drive up to DC and probably stay in Arlington, VA.

I guarantee you that there is a teenager looking for fifty bucks near you who will take care of your critters. They line up to take care of mine down here! No excuses!:eek:

The reason for the march on washington Oct 11 2009 is not marriage only. It' Us, taking responsibility to end oppression by being visible, united, entitled ,real, strong and nonviolent yet not vulnerable. Our capacity to endure suffering will wear down their capacity to oppress. Our Expression of our humanity will provoke compassion. Our resistance and strength will take away the vulnerability that provokes their predation. And when their prioity becomes release from their suffering of conscience, our forgiveness with mend the hearts of all.

I recently watched the movie Milk and I was wondering why we didn't have more pride marches at state capitals. I hope they get a huge turn out and start doing more advertising for it soon. It's ridiculous that we still don't have DADT repealed and that only a handful of states treat the LGBT community as equal human beings in the 21s century.

We've had quite a few rallies/marches since November 4th (Prop 8 passed). Attendance is consistently waning. It gets frustrating. We had very few volunteers in CA willing to put in time to fight Prop 8 before election. Sure, more came on board right after it passed, but eventually, interest seemed to slow down. Makes me wonder if they want to take away our rights more than we want to keep them?

We shall see what happens in DC this October.

Thanks for the response, tdogg. The park in the middle of Regina is called the Wascana Park, and that is the Legislative Building on the south side of the lake.

If you come back to Regina, how about coming by the local gay club? It's called GLCR (Gay & Lesbian Community of Regina. It's downtown on the west side of 2000-block Broad Street, which is between Victoria Avenue and 13th Avenue. It's the small place with the big rainbow sign.

The GLCR Club is has a small, intimate lounge where people sit around talking about politics, life, the universe and everything. It also has a dance floor area and in the basement is a multi-purpose room where groups hold events like drag shows.

We're always happy to welcome visitors from out of town, out of province, and out of the country. I bet some people would love to hear your stories about California.
