Is trouble brewing in Charlotte?
from Box Turtle Bulletin:
Charlotte (N.C.) Pride this year falls on July 25. In response, two prominent Pentecostal evangelists plan to confront Pride attendees by surrounding the park with more than 1,000 “worshipers, intercessors, musicians, soul-winners, walkers, talkers, and believers of every age, color, and size” there to “stand together as a prophetic witness to our society.” One of the organizers of the anti-gay confrontation predicts that the day will represent a “flash point” in turning back the so-called “homosexual agenda.” Local LGBT advocates fear that the presence of such a large amp-ed up contingent of anti-gay extremists at the properly-permitted celebration could become a flash point of a very different kind. I will not be surprised
If this effort only ends up making the anti-gay marchers look only more intolerant than they already are.
Of course, what about the gay-affirming clergy/churches marching the Pride parade? Perhaps I am assuming too much perhaps, but they do exist in Charlotte, don't they? If they aren't planning on marching....well....this would be a good time. Time to stand in the light. |
They'd better be careful. All that gayness in the air might be catching. They might find themselves wearing freedom rings and dancing along to "We Are Family":):):):)

On the edge: Religious militancy in the Queen City
Charlotte's Michael Brown and Coalition of Conscience are walking a dangerously short path to religious violence by Matt Comer, July 17, 2009 I think that one is more in depth than the BTB article. Also, I think Matt was on the first Equality Ride. Another one here: Audio: Matt Comer on ‘Line of Fire’ Below is audio from my appearance on Dr. Michael Brown’s “Line of Fire” radio show on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Comer lives in Charlotte and has gone up against Brown before. Quote:

According to the Charlotte Observer, 10,000 LGBT people attended the Pride event in Charlotte yesterday (July 25). Only 500 anti-gay protesters showed up, half the number expected by Michael Brown. One Pride attendee said the number of anti-gay protesters looked more like 200.
I guess Michael Brown's hope that this would "have a ripple effect around the nation and begin the process of turning back gay rights" turned out to be a huge dud. I guess protesting the queer party is low on the "to-do" list for Saturday afternoon. 1. mow lawn 2. wash car 3. get haircut 4. watch the race 5. haul trash 6. trim toenails 7. wash dog 8. take a nap 9. hose off driveway 10. protest the queers Rick |
