Hold Your Tongue, Woman!
This is precisely -- literally -- what the Archbishop of Canterbury told the Episcopal Presiding Bishop last Sunday.

Katharine Jefferts Schori is a consummate negotiator, and broker of agreeable deals,
among leaders who make a point of being disagreeable. I trust and respect her, very much.
AB Williams is the head of a communion which has avoided a strong, or centralized authority, probably in reaction to their split from the RCC. (Note: I instinctively distrust any church hierarchy, and we all know who has the biggest hierarchy.) He presently heads a communion which has reached the point of schism, though none of the member churches will yet admit it. Is Williams a wuss? I'm not sure. What was that quote from Gandhi, that I can't seem to Google or wiki? "First they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win"? There are an amazing number of "Christian" leaders, who honestly seem to believe that Women Are Somehow Not Created In The Image Of The Almighty. When they finally meet their Maker, She may express Her displeasure. By taking off her mitre, she may have appeared to lose, but in fact, she won that one. By running a "Background Check" on KJS, her critics reduce themselves to the credibility of Birthers. I trust K.J.S. She will pull the best possible rabbit out of the hat. And hey, Schism IS preferable to hypocracy, or dishonesty, in my not so humble opinion. I respect AB Williams for only one thing, at the moment. He HAS provoked me to the point of Rant. Christ loves us, even if the Christians don't. -- BruceChris |
Best Possible Rabbit OUT of the Hat?
Sounds like there is another layer of meaning in that sentence.
It never ceases to amaze me when clergy get all upset because someone moved the doll house furniture an inch in a different direction. Oh! There must be hell to pay. And it was in a different doll house across the pond! What will the neighbors to the South think? Oy! The divine Ms. Schori seems to not have her hat on too tight, and that is a very good thing: it can cut off the flow of blood and critical thinking. |
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Gandhi It's one my favorites. You can probaby find it now, Bruce. There are a lot of great ones. |
Funny, when you think that Rowan Williams is under the authority (theoretically at least) of woman who can fire him at her pleasure; Elizabeth Windsor.

Yes. But she better be careful. If too much critical thinking flows, she'll be putting that hat in a drawer. Rick |
I trust that K.J.S has the personal wisdom, regional power within TEC, and sagasity to more that keep her feet under her, no matter what the AB of C, or the Africans throw at
her. Have any of you listened to any of her sermons? This is a woman of SUBSTANCE, And beyond that, she believes that LGBT people are created that way by God, and not just victims of temptation. The writers of Leviticus did not have Dr. Ruth, Masters and Johnson, or Dr. Kinsey as consultants. I am very tempted to become a Pisky, but they tend to be so damned formal. When they got rid of the RCC, it would have been nice if they had gotten rid of the huge cathedrals, as well as most of the bells and smells, (or was that whistles?) BC |
