New Old guy

Hello, I am an older Christian guy, 60 yrs old. Spent 17 years actively "gay". (Christian since age 7) went through ex-gay Love in Action residential program from1992-1995. Entered Eastern Orthodox Church thru baptism and chrismation. Spent 1999-2005 in Orthodox monasteries looking to become a monk. Left Monastic life and Orthodoxy to return to protestant church in 2005. Worked with Love in Action for one year. Now I don't go to church, feel that I have broken my relationship with God, very isolated, and still celibate/chaste since 1992 although I started up with porn and masturbation about a year ago after total abstinence for years and years.

I want to live as a Christian, but sense I inherently am a complete sex addict although somewhat under control.. I am on meds for depression and bi-polar. Apart from all that stuff, I am a pretty swell guy, believe it or not!

Welcome

Hello Timwar and welcome. You story is interesting because I see that you have a love for God. You created you as you are. God desires that you live a full and meaningful life. Sexuality is very much a part of life.

I'm 62 years old and transgender. I have been a Christian since 1972. My spouse of 31 years knows and accepts this. Above all, God has affirmed and confirmed me as his child who happens to be transgender.

You should be hear from the regulars here soon.

Hi!

Hi Tim and welcome! Hope you find yourself welcome here.

Sometimes when we deprive ourselves of physical needs and desires, it makes us want them a million times more. Sort of like dieting - if I tell myself I can never have ice cream, that's all I want 24/7.

I have struggled with my faith, especially since I accepted myself as gay. But God is always there with and for me, if nothing else to remind me to love myself, love others and live with compassion. If your heart is in the right place, how can that be wrong. I wish you much love, especially for yourself.

Read through the threads, there are so many conversations and many from those who went through ex-gay programs. It just doesn't work. Good luck and many blessings to you!
