My husband Charley is an FTM. He is similarly criticised by a few in the TG community because he bore, nursed and raised two children before he transitioned to male. They ask him, "How could you be male if you had children?"

Gender is between the ears, not the legs. It is a person's self-concept of the gender he/she is and how to express that gender. Most of that expression is cultural in nature and not sexual. And the urge to nurture is not limited to the female side of humanity.

I believe that people should have sole custody of their bodies and the decisions over what to do with them concerning the conception and birthing of children. This courageous fellow and his wife should be supported not undermined. I have often wondered what it would be like to carry a child and give birth. This lucky guy has had the experience from both sides of the gender binary. I think he is very courageous. And think how much they want and will cherish this little girl.
