Welcome Kyle. Pleased to meet ya! Glad you're out of reach of the hurricaine.
Keep the bridge intact with your parents and hopefully they will come around. You're still their son and there are bonds of love there that will overcome any prejudice and misunderstanding they have of GLBT people. You are aware of the Soulforce resouces available on the site that you can download and print off and use to inform yourself and to educate your parents. Is there a PFLAG chapter near where you live that you could ask your parents to attend? Your UU congregation could tell you.
I'm a partisan Democrat and know your feelings about this election. I have a lot of negative feelings toward the current regime in the White House too. It's a case of hating the sin and loving the sinner but often difficult to separate the two. Living up to one's principles is easier said than done, for sure. But they are there to guide you and keep you on track and when you fall short to help you get back on track.

"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not care to support it, so that its professors are obliged to call for the help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one." Ben Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac
