It should be noted that there are a number of critiques to this theory.
Most of them revolve around the idea that this developmental understanding is accurate if you are a white, middle class, male.
However, I should say I have not read in detail what these critiques actually say so I cannot go into much detail about them.
However, Ritch Savin-Williams' book The New Gay Teenager has a good discussion of these critiques, even though the book as a whole is crap on paper.
