Let me share something my (straight) cousin told my sister. She was talking about how Christians are told to save themselves for marriage. In her case, when she did get married, the man turned out to be a total jerk. The marriage ended. She had saved herself for a jerk, and she regretted it.
I think each person makes his/her own choice on the matter. In the case of many same sex couples, if they waited for marriage, which presently is unavailable in 45 states, not to mention other countries where same sex marriage is illegal, they'd probably be waiting indefiniately.
Of course, sex is no doubt better when experienced between people who have a loving commitment to each other. But I don't believe we have to save ourselves for marriage. Neither do I believe that sex is strictly for procreation, as conservative Catholics and many other Christians do.
