I understand 'bitter'. I live in NYC after all. And we're all supposed to be 'bitter' and 'jaded', another good word for that 'reading-between-the-lines' and 'not-quite-sure-things-are-up-to-snuff' look we- again- supposedly have.
It's hard to keep the heart open, that's what I hear you saying. And I could not agree more. One doesn't want to be burned twice after all.
There is the thought, however, that love isn't lost. It merely goes where it needs to go. Perhaps that is fanciful or even magical thinking. But perhaps our tribe, which understands 'magic' more than most, can conjure some for even the least of those.
