When I came out to my mother 34 years ago it was horrifying. I didn't come out to my dad until this past Friday. He just looked at me and said "I've always known". He was in town for the weekend and had lunch with my minister and me. He pretty much just sat there and bragged about me the whole time. It was sort of embarrassing. I had no idea he was so proud of his gay son. It was a truly healing experience. He just called me to reinforce that a few minutes ago. My sister had told me last week that it was okay to bring a date when I came to visit. Wow. Good one God, thanks. Who says there's no such thing as miracles?
Dad was also given six months to live back in 2007. He's still here.
