Default Where's the fire?

Last year, my church overwhelmingly (something like 75-2) passed a motion to become a Welcoming Congregation, meaning that we are officially recognized by our "head church" as having passed a program specifically designed to openly welcome individuals and families in all their lifestyles.

As the Committee Chair found she had to scale-back her commitments and stepped down, I took over as co-chair with another church member. When we called our first meeting to figure out where we wanted to go for the next year, only one other person showed up for the meeting, and that was the previous Chair, to give her input.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I thought there was fire in my congregation for this program. What advice can anyone give me as to how to stoke the original fire back up?

Thanx!
Patricia

when was this meeting of no-shows? it really might have been a matter of timing, esp around the holidays....

Did you and the previous chair talk about why no one was there. Did she say that she was having trouble getting people interested?

Are there records from those original meetings? who led the vote? go talk to those people and let thme know of your desire to follow through on the congregations stated intentions.

Default You're right...

it could very much have been timing, but there were a lot of people in church that day.

The previous chair seemed puzzled as well. She did give me the names of people who were very supportive last year when we ran the original program. She also gave me the name of contact people in neighboring churches (our denomination) who could be a beneficial resource.

Thanx!
