To help bring more attention to the radical side of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (and for a little fun in the forums) Soulforce is holding a contest all this week, Monday - Friday. At 8:00pm EST every day, a trivia question on Dr. King will be posted to this thread. Be the first to post the correct answer and you win your choice of the DVD Citizen King or the CD collection A Call to Conscience (which contains the great antiwar speech "Beyond Vietnam.")
Have fun! Contest Rules: You may only post one answer per question. If your answer is not correct, you cannot submit another answer for that day's question. Soulforce Staff are ineligible and you can only win once. Winners must also provide a ship-to address that Amazon.com can ship to without excessive charges. Monday's Trivia Question
On Thursday, December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man, even though she was sitting in the black section. After her arrest, the local black community organized a one-day boycott of the city buses to take place on Monday, December 5, 1955. Following the initial success of the campaign, black leaders voted to continue the boycott. They formed a new organization and they named Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as its president. What was the name of the new organization and how old was Dr. King at the time he was chosen its president? |

Tuesday's Trivia Question
In 1963, Dr. King spent eight days in a jail in Birmingham, Alabama, the south's most segregated city, for leading a demonstration on Good Friday. (After sit-ins and marches, city officials on April 10 had secured a state court injuction against further demonstrations, which King then disregarded.) While in jail, King came across an open letter from eight white clergymen printed in The Birmingham News. The open letter strongly criticized the mass protests and called upon the black community in Birmingham to not support the demonstrations. In response, Dr. King wrote the now famous "Letter From Birmingham Jail." To win today's contest, find both the Letter From Birmingham Jail and the open letter from the eight white clergymen on the internet and post both links here. The links must be to the complete documents. |

Okay so I'm not the first one to answer, but since I had such a hard time try to access certain sites, and since my computer froze in the process, I'm submitting my answer anyway. ...........http://www.stanford.edu/group/King/frequentd http://www.nobelprizes.com/nobel/pea...ocs/clergy.pdf
