I've been wanting to find some people who would journey with me through the Landmark Speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and discuss how these speeches apply to the LGBT quest for civil rights. Dr. King's landmark speeches are available online at Stanford University:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/King/p...s/contents.htm While reading the speeches is OK, I would suggest purchasing the CD set from Amazon.com. There is something very powerful about listening to Dr. King speak. http://www.amazon.com/Call-Conscienc...4555012&sr=8-1 I'm really hoping I can find some folks to have some very indepth and serious discussions about how the soul, ideas and methods of Dr. King's activism can apply to our own civil rights activism. If there is an interested group, I will post a link to the speech of the week and we can discuss it all week. There are eleven speeches so I anticipate that we'd be at this for eleven weeks. Let me know what you think. Let me know if you're in. |

I constantly find his overall being as a source of inspiration, and comfort at times. When I feel isolated, alone, fearful, his words and his commitment help me to go on. I am not familiar with the speeches in detail, but I love your idea of getting a copy of the recordings of the speeches. I actually visited Atlanta, GA about four years ago for a conference, and I walked down the street of his old neighborhood, went to the MLK center, saw his tombstone, and was completely overwhelmed with emotion. Before my trip, I had purchased the video "My friend Martin" which is a cartoon that depicts parts of his life, and his death. My daughter absolutely loves it, and I actually want to find it on DVD. I also bought a sweatshirt there with his picture on it, and wear it every year on MLK day.
