Hello Soulforce, I am Eric. I had been cruising around on the forums of this community for a while, trying to make myself feel better by hearing the voices of other people talk about God and gays in the same post without spitting hate. Due to the fact that I am shy, it was only because of this stressful upcoming election that I decided to join and up the number of members that believe in opposing the stain against an all loving God of current "Christian" beliefs by one.
Coming from a conservative family and having been raised as a Christian, it is strange and hard how I am going against the grain- against the beliefs that African Americans are monkeys, that Mexicans are illegal and will work for cheap, that the Jews deserved what they got in the Holocaust, that gays are sick, sick people and rape others with their eyes. It scares me that I am a plant coming from a gardener of such a mindset of people different than the "smart Chinese" and I hope to unearth more prejudices rooted deep within my being and cleanse them out. At 18 years old, I am learning and I hope that we may learn together how to accept others and look upon the diversity of our world with a positive light. Praise the Lord. Okay, so now that I finished rambling, wassup Soulforce?

Hey there Eric and welcome; very glad you decided to join in and speak up.
I was raised to believe that Gods loves everyone; as long as everyone is white, republican and baptist ![]() It takes a lot of work work to undo some of those "more prejudices rooted deep within my being and cleanse them out", but better you start at 18 as oppossed to 39

Much appreciated, labguy22, for the welcome. I am proud of my younger sister who, at age 13, is already speaking out against prop 8, dang that's brave. I have a question, what other organizations, besides Soulforce is committed to the nonviolent resistance of discrimination?

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the forums. I hope that you will make your voice heard here often. It is always great to see youger people taking a stand against the status quo. And also good to see people who are willing to challenge the conservative Christian prejudices that have so hijacked the message of Christ's Gospel. Tu Amigo, Pablo

Wow, Duskmelt -- I really appreciate your insight. And at 18 years old...that is wonderful. I went to a really backwards college but had the good fortune of a few very wise teachers there. One of them told me, "We are not always born into our true communities." This sounds like the case for you. It is weird to realize you're not like your family...that your beliefs can be totally different (and more enlightened). Sometimes children are born to teach their parents (and not the other way 'round)!
Welcome! Mary Anne

I'm a little shorthanded on this end, as a virus ate my computer two days ago, and Yahoo ate most of my bookmarks at about the same time. However, I do recall that a similar gay and Christian site exists at this address:
www.whosoever.org I can remember when I was young, I believed that all Negroes were inferior, because no one had told me otherwise. Well, a lot has changed, and yesterday I voted for one, for president. Check them out, I mean Whosoever. Peace and Love, Bruce Chris
