I was recently a victim of homophobic counseling and wondered if it has happened to anyone else. It is a licensed mental health agency and I recently reported them to the appropriate agencies, but two counselors and a supervisor told me my sexual orientation, gay, is a lifestyle choice. I quit attending there and now attend a better organization. I don't understand how they can legally do this - its homophobia and I wonder if they've did this to others that have went there for counseling on coping with homophobia and instead are confronted with more of it.

It hasn't happened to me but I know it does happen. Many of the people in this field know little or nothing about what it is to be gay, lesbian, bi, or transgender. I agree that they need to be confronted on this because they are interjecting their own biases and prejudices into their treatment. To me this is unprofessional and unethical.

I agree that is unethical and reported those responsible for it. I hope those responsible have their licenses revoked.
