Talking God Made Me Gay

At www.godmademegay.com (which I found from another thread on this forum), there is an amazing letter someone wrote which points out ten statements that church congregations must come to accept about homosexuals:

1. Homosexuality is an unchangeable nature; it is not a lifestyle choice.

2. All people are created in the image of God. The homosexuality of gays and lesbians, created by God, is good and not evil.

3. The homosexual is just as normal a person as a heterosexual and should not be thought of in sexual terms.

4. Several passages in the Bible speak of same-gender sex. In every instance, the Bible is talking about heterosexuals who, filled with lust, have become sex perverts. The Bible says nothing about innate homosexuality as we know it today or about people who are homosexuals.

5. The burden imposed on homosexuals by society is a great evil. We should stand in revulsion against, and do all we can to oppose, the prejudice, the hatreds, and the condemnation of a society that make the homosexual's life so difficult.

6. Homosexuals are being sinned against by our churches. Like our society, our churches need to change.

7. Gays and lesbians in general have the potential for outstanding character and accomplishment; some may have greater potential than most heterosexuals to be exceptional persons.

8. It is not only unrealistic to expect homosexuals to live without sex, but also it is psychologically harmful to them for them to do so.

9. Full acceptance by society, including the blessings and legality of marriage should be extended to gays and lesbians in the same way it is extended to others.

10. As in society, gays and lesbians should be accepted and affirmed in our churches and given any opportunity for service, including ordination, that others have.

There's background and research to accompany each of these statements. I thought it was something important to read for those of us who might have to explain our humanity to someone not quite as informed.

I have sent the "letter to Louise" that is posted on that site to many people. When you print it out it is over 36 pages, but filled with great information. I wish many more would read it.

Thanks for spreading the word!

That was one of the first affirming websites I found when I came out, and it was immensely helpful. For me, it was a great start, and I found more and more (eventually Soulforce) to help me on my journey. It's good to be reminded of that site, and how helpful it can be especially to those who are confused and struggling with their sexual orientation.

Thumbs up

Mia: A beautiful way of expressing what being Gay is all about. Too bad you can't sell it to your "inlaws".

I think what's so great about "Letter to Louise" is the author. He's not one of us. He is from a closed-minded denomination and an old school Baptist and theologian. And he an his wife got great inspiration from God.

The problem with Focus and closed-minded denominations is they need to show us their side and warn us of our doom, but they never want to stop and step in our shoes and see it from our side. They can never take a good look with an open-mind at the few verses they have to prove we are wrong.

Talking If I buy the wool, would HE make me one too?

Thank God it's His fault! All this time everyone's been blaming my mother.

Wink Blame Jesus, it's biblical and all that...

Yes, at an early age I wanted to follow in Jesus' footsteps just like I was taught in Sunday School...so, I had about 12 men, settled down with one beloved, was betrayed by another, and well, just the whole 80s disco scene basically...collected a chosen alternative family like Mary, Martha, & Lazarus, had 2 leather pals (the Centurion and his slave); oh, sure it's anachronistic, and even stupid, but it's more truthier (God, I love Stephen Colbert!) than the dopey logic ex-gay ministries use to try to re-define us.

And now that you mention it, God is sort of a distant father isn't He? I mean, sure, He wrote some letters, but where is He when the rent is due?

Yep. God made me gay. And I just want to thank God for it today.

Obviously, it could've been a whole lot worse, I could've been created an innocent Lebanese person getting in the way of Jesus' most glorious return at Armegeddon. Ewww...those people stick their butts up in the air when they pray! It's unnatural! I only do that when, well, never mind, but I'm glad I'm gay.

Match my sarcasm and we can escape christofascist reality together for a while...(Chris? Who's Chris?)

Default Interpretation of the Bible

A letter to Louise is a long study, but I hope everyone gets to read the whole. But if there was a part that I think every person interested in the Bible could benefit from it is Appendix A on the interpretation of the Bible. I want to make copies to hand out but 36 pages is a limitation. Copying Appx. A and hope they go to the website for the rest.
