Default Do People really believe this stuff?

http://www.christianforums.com/t3207...s-of-evil.html

some of the more radical voices of the glbt community write some stuff and somehow, christians latch onto it to proclaim it as evidence of the elusive "agenda." and did I not read that when Larry Kramer wrote some of that stuff, it was satire/sarcasm?

anyway, I don't think that thread will last long before it's locked or removed. and who knows, maybe I'll be banned over there!

Read the thread: if it wasn't so sad it would be funny. Seems that only open minds can understand sarcasm or her sister, irony.

I remember reading Larry's novel, "Faggot's" when it came out. Boy, did it get everyone up in arms. He has been as much a critic of gay men as anyone else. I guess that nuance is lost or unknown the person who quotes him. And his play, The Normal Heart, still has resonance. I know that I, for one, have often been put off by his angry stance, but know that he was the gay community's prophet crying in the wilderness. I am proud to call him my brother. He used his anger for good.

Hope you don't get canned over there: you're good!

Thumbs down

I have bumped into websites like this all too often, when not even trying to. I would have to believe that Googling something like "Conservative Christianity" would have to turn up thousands. (Back in a minute)

Well, I Googled "Paranoid Christianity" and got 3,600,000 hits. This is scary. Who would ever believe that there are so many people addicted to fear and ignorance? I was once at a Thanksgiving dinner at a nice, university area church, and the guy next to me asked me what my church was doing these days. When I began to talk about the work being done on GLBT issues, the woman next to me jumped up with a look of fear on her face, and tried to exorcize me on the spot.

P&L, Chris

Yep, people really do believe that stuff Keltic. I'm even related to a few of them.

The good news is that most people don't take these things seriously. Or at least not most of the people I meet.

I think they just closed it down. The link doesn't work anymore and I signed up and can't find it, assuming it was in the Ethics and Morality section where the others are.

I caught a glimps of it last night, but when I went back just now, it was gone.

Some people really do believe things like that. This fundie lady in the pool last night was claiming God threw Hurricane Katrina at New Orleans because they had a gay mayor (I don't know if Nagin is gay, but I can't remember ever hearing that). Crazy. She thought that's the reason he was voted out too, although I pointed out that was actually because he was just incompetent.

Yes. it is gone. not even locked down, just totally removed. I didn't receive any messages or warnings, not that I felt I had done anything wrong. That doesn't seem to make much difference there, as I was warned within 24 hours of arriving at those forums and I'm still not sure just what I did that was wrong.

That is an image worthy of hollywood, (with your part played by, I'm thinking, Jason Biggs, who does great at looking puzzled) and would be vastly amusing if not so scary and sad. Its frightening that they believe things like this, especially when they go on to have political power - a reminder that we can't just dismiss them as crackpots when they, say, blame Katrina on LGBTs.

Unfortunately irony/satire is generally beyond them. I use it and read it often, to cheer me up (and I like it used here as it makes me laugh), but it's difficult to try not to use it to inflame. When I'm on such boards, I keep chanting to myself "compassion, they know not what they do... yet" Always the yet...

well, I was warned again. that makes the 2nd warning. One member over there starts threads that are nothing more than links to "christian" news websites, Lifesite and Agape for the most part. The "news" stories are almost always anti-LGBT, so I questioned the guy on why he is obsessed with gay sex, saying something like "you think about gay sex more than I do, and I'm gay!" here's his response, then mine, which actually earned me the warning.

and yet so many of your posts are related to that very activity, either directly or indirectly. hmmm. fascinating.

There's a very strong bias from the administrators there, even in the "Open to All Members" forums, and in particular the "Ethics and Morality" Forum.

Default grrr

How annoying, they obviously don't want open honest discussion there, just a forum for their own thoughts. Preaching to the choir, as it were.
Keep it up till the last, mate
