Cool. Nothing w/ just my name, at least not early enough in the list for me to keep looking. If I type "Britt. soulforce," it shows my intro. thread on top, then my profile here. heh.

As I thought, Zerbie being a common short name for Zerbinetta, and commonly seized upon by coloraturas, I ran into all kinds of singer blogs and such. Interestingly, got several sites in French and German as well, (the French was surprising, not the German), but my favorite had to be the website showcases photos of "Zerbie" (short in that case for Zerberus), the world famous Sheltie show-dog. From Germany, all in German.
Very cute puppy, btw. I've googled my regular name before. My husband did a search on my name right after we first met, and phoned me up one day asking, "Did you used to campaign for gay marriage in NJ in the 1990s?" I said, "Omigod, who told you that? How did you find that out?" Since I hadn't even remembered it, it was such a short-lived stint of volunteering one summer during college. He said he found it doing an online search of my name. I was never able to find the same result, myself. But I DID find many women with my name, and apparently my name has a tendency to belong to authors, feminists, and artists. My all-time favorite was meeting an opera composer by my same exact name who is living in LA and writing operas about famous literary women. We've emailed back and forth a little bit, and someday soon I'm going to send her a demo CD of my singing. Maybe I should perform some of her songs, just so reading the program confuses the heck outta everyone!!!

I have actually pulled it off! I find hardly anything! When I sign up for public things I'm always cafeful to use a name that's slightly different or a different name altogether so that my parents and friends don't find all these things when they do Google searchs...
Great idea Nate... it's always interesting to see what comes up...

My real name yields lots of stuff from Soulforce activism now, but also an article about a competition I was in (and my team won
) in high school. There's one hit about a woman who is a municipal employee, but spells her first name slightly different. For my forum username, things are more interesting. There's the usual SF links, but it seems that MIA14 is also shorthand for Murine Endogenous Retrovirus. It's hard to muddle through all the info on the virus, but there's mention of monkeys and lots of discussion about things on a cellular level. Wow, never thought to google the username! Great idea, Nate!

Googling my name usually turns up hateful comments about me made by extreme anti-gay conservatives. Very scary. As I read futher through the reesults I find some articles about some of the cool stuff I have done in the fight for rights.
But for the most part, running my name at google is depressing. |

Most of the links for me are music-related though. Maybe because I haven't posted my full name here. #2 and #3 in google for me: Quote:

I'm there as myself- with no links here- for the simple reason that my last name (Shigo) is middle European and was anglicized curtesy of my grandfathers first grade teacher. An Ellis Island tale. Though, my famous uncle is all over the place- the tree scientist.
On names: Now and then I think about using my middle name as my last- James. Though it's getting a little late in the day for that. I find it interesting though, in some cultures, taking a name for oneself is part of becoming an adult.
