Default Hello hello!

Hey there, name's Tim, I'm a member of SoulForceNYC and a new user of this forums site. I'm excited to see us all connecting from all around the country (Lord knows it sometimes seems like there's very few of us in our local areas!).

A little about me: I'm 26, work in the nonprofit sector for a Learning Disabilities Helpline, live in New York, grew up in Virginia (Roanoke... practically next door to Lynchburg), and I've been a member of the NYC chapter of SoulForce for over 2 and a half years now. About two years ago I volunteered to help out with the "steering committee" and I've watched our little "all volunteer" group grow to an almost-legal nonprofit organization, which makes me very happy.

I guess I've always been fascinated by and concerned over the intersection of religion and sexuality - and like Walt Whitman, I don't find it difficult to accept that I may appear to have "contradictory" facets in those areas. And that's why I SoulForce!

Me too!!

It raises essential questions about identity, physicality, spirituality, and how they all interface. The interaction of the physical and the non-material, if you will. First time I heard of gay people as a little little girl, it seemed confusing until I asked myself, So what is the spiritual essence of this issue? And within moments it was all perfectly clear.

Digressing, sorry.

Anyway, welcome!

Zerbie

Welcome, Tim!

Love your quotes from Whitman! Acceptance of contradiction as part of human existence is such a freedom!

Congrats on the success of your local SF Chapter...sounds like you guys have a great organization going!

Default art show

Hi Tim,
I was excited to see someone posting from NYC. I have a show currently up in the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea. If you're interested in art the gallery is at 511 25th St between 10th and 11th Ave. The gallery shares the building with other galleries, my work is on the fourth floor.

Nice to have you at Soulforce.

Corey in Lynchburg, VA here. If you are ever back in the area let me know. We could hang out and I'm sure we could talk Mel and Gary into dinner. Say hi to Andrew B. for me.
