Default Well hello :0)

Hey everyone :0)

My name is Joe and I'm from Long Island, New York. I'm gay and a student at Ithaca College currently getting my bachelors in both psychology and sociology with a concentration in gender studies (previously music major...huge switch, I Know). I plan on becoming a psychologist with a concentration in sexuality and sexual orientation and after finding this site, I think this would be a great place to get alot of information for case studies and such that I will be doing over the course of the next 6-8 years. I look forward to meeting all of you as well as bringing my opinion to the boards.

:0)

hahaha, yeah about that...

let's just say I was doing music education and really wanted to do music composition, but my parents wouldn't let me because "there's no jobs in it!" So, naturally, I decided to hell with it, and now I'm majoring in psych (but still composing on the side....just finished my first concerto )

DEFINITELY keep up with the composition!! Keep expressing (and developing) your creative voice.

I suppose you could count on the fingers of one hand the number of composers making a full time living writing music. But if you're interested in academia, you would fit right in to a music school faculty. Teach days, set aside some nights and weekends for composition. . . .

There I go, opening my big mouth again. Take it with a grain of salt Mr. Pocket, but just in case you are wishing you stayed with music, thought I'd encourage you. It's possible.

Then again, your current career track sounds just as exciting. All the best!

Oh PS: Dewdrop_world is a composer. Check out his website, I think it's in his profile.

lol, no I appreciate it!! That's actually what I plan on doing...and I'm super excited about it all. I'm going to compose all throughout college in hopes that someone likes my stuff enough to want to play it . I love composing and I can do it whenever I feel like it...so it's the perfect side job!

Default Welcome!!

I also am in college majoring in psychology and religious studies. About ten years ago, I originally set out with psychology and a minor in music, but the following 10 years in the pulpit as a cantor made me realize that I could help many more people through therapy. I especially want to work with teens.
I'm glad you found the site, and look forward to reading your posts.
Welcome!

haha, yeah I realized that too...I'm hoping to become a counselor for teens and adults who are just coming out, and having family counseling as well. Who knows, maybe I'll commit suicicde AKA go to med school and become a psychiatrist (sp?). But yeah...I'm glad I dropped music...it'll always be a part of my life, but just...not my entire life, hah. Nice to meet you

Welcome.

As one music man to another, I'm glad to hear that you are keeping your craft going. Hope all goes well with that and your studies. You have great goals going there.

Smile Welcome to our website and forums, Joe

But I doubt that you will learn much, toward your major, we're WAY too sane. Abraham Maslow would feel right at home. I keep coming back; to find a better bunch, I'd have to go to my church, and then wait for Sunday! Check out one of our friendlier threads:

Better yet, check out as many as you like.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

haha, aww...you all seem so close. It's great! I miss having that community experience online...I used to Roleplay on multiple X-men RPG sites, and the one thing I always took away from them was the friendships. Hopefully I'll get that here too!
