Default What brand of guitar is the best?

because it seems that First-Act is cheap, but i read horror stories about First Act Guitars, while a guitar by Gibson at Sam Goody seems to be $168 U.S. Dollars, while Fender is the most expensive.

Which one is the best.

Default Seagull

Renaissancefan,

I'll tell you my personal preferance. I have two Seagull guitars. One is a 12 string guitar and the other a 6 string acoustic electric. They are handmade in Quebec out of native wild cherry wood. I think the sound is awesome; so do others who have played them. The only disadvantage I see it the cherry wood is really soft and they get scratched up easily.

I bought both on E-bay. The 12 string for about $300 and the acoustic electric for about $275. (I don't know how I got it that cheap; they sell new for like $500. A friend of mine said it was probably stolen.)

I also have a cheap First Act guitar I bought at Wal Mart. It is an OK guitar. It was worth the money I paid for it. I use it when I need an old beater guitar for playing at outdoor events etc.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

Ah, Greensleeves, I haven't played that one in years. It takes me back to my days of learning guitar in Junior High. No need to mention how long ago that has been.

A First Act guitar should be no problem. Renaissance music seems to me to be better suited to a classical guitar than a steel string guitar. You can put nylon strings on any guitar. You would just have to buy a set and switch them out. (However, you can't take a classical guitar and put steel strings on it. Unless you want it to break apart.) If I were you, I would go to a music store and try some out. The music store I go to has prices that are comparable to the prices of WalMart (but more than people sell for on E-bay.) and there is someone there who can answer questions. My instrument philosophy is to buy a fairly cheap one; then if I am really interested and want better, I buy a nicer one. If I lose interest, I haven't lost much and can sell it on E-bay.

Oops! just checked today and the $168 was not a Gibson but a BEHRINGER.
