As I was renewing a subscription, I thought I'd ask what magazines do you subscribe to?
I subscribe to The Advocate and Zion's Herald. Zion's Herald is a progressive religious magazine. I used to subscribe to the fabulous magazine The Other Side, but they had to cease publication due to lack of finances. They were the one magazine where I saved all my back-issues. |

The Advocate, Out, Cooking Light
there are others I've subscribed to, and a few that I need to subscribe to so I can save some money, but those are the 3 that are delivered right now. |

I subscribe to Christian Century, which is, I guess, a moderate to somewhat progressive magazine out of mainline Protestantism.
I've read Zion's Herald--I'm pleased to see that Jamie Mc reads it! It is very informative about how the religious right (and particulary the Washington think tank Institute for Religion and Democracy or IRD) is working to move mainline protestantism to the right. Homophobia is an important tool in this attempt to shift our churches and our culture to the right. |

Right now I have a subscription to Shambhala Sun (Buddhist). My partner will often buy Men's Health, GQ or Vanity Fair off the newstand. I have subscribed to Parabola (on mythology, religion, etc.) and Spring Journal (on archetypal psychology) in the past. I can not remember the other one I have subscribed to, but it is something like Psychotherapy News. A long time ago we had a subscription to The Advocate.

I can't say enough good things about The New Republic. Feisty, independent-minded investigative reporting along with very rich book reviews (the kind of book reviews where you learn almost as much as if you read the book!) and film, theater, music and architecture criticism.
What I like best is that they present different sides of contentious issues and don't dumb anything down. When gay marriage hit the media spotlight, they had back-to-back columns in the same issue, Andrew Sullivan arguing that gay marriage was the best struggle to pursue for gay equality, and another columnist (name slipped my mind, sorry) arguing that it was asking for too much too quickly. I, as the reader, get exposure to both sides and can make up my own mind. hjh

The World of Interiors- the best magazine of it's kind for interior decoration- I have the last 5 years on my shelves. Dark NYC apartments need a bit of thought. Shambhala Sun and Tricycle on occasion (I'm a closet Buddhist having sat Zazen for many years now. This has formed my thinking more than my adolescent leanings with AG fundamentalism.) The New Yorker.
