Default Large Presbyterian Church Votes to Leave PCUSA

read about it HERE

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- Members of the largest church in the Pittsburgh Presbytery voted to leave the Presbyterian Church (USA) and join a smaller, more conservative denomination. At a congregational meeting Sunday, 951 members of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in McCandless Township voted to be affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
the television news report I saw last night failed to mention the following:

Quote:
Memorial Park church officials said last month they were concerned about the national denomination's move away from traditional doctrines concerning the Holy Trinity and the authority of the Bible, and its increasingly liberal views on gay ordination.
I suspected that this was the main issue. Makes me want to drive up there and pay them a visit next sunday!

Friends,

Though I am United Methodist, I've been employed by a large congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for many years. I've seen some of these conflicts develop from close up. I suspect the problem with the Holy Trinity (which seems alive and well in the liberal congregation I work for) is that the conservatives object to the use of any words except "Father, Son and Holy Spirit." The right wingers are really hung up on patriarchy and God being exclusively "Father" never "Mother" or "Creator."

There's the issue of "biblical literalism," but it is pure homophobia that really drives the schisms in the Episcopal, Presbyterian and United Methodist denominations.

Ok, let's send it to committee and ask them to form a task force to study the proper wording and report back to General Assembly in 2 years. Until then, we'd like a moratorium on all doors hitting people in asses, whether they be on the way out or not.
