Default Welcome, MCstudent

It is wonderful to hear from someone who may not yet know gay people, but has a Christian openness, to try to see people as they are, before judging. I have known an awful lot of LGBT people, often in positions of leadership in my church, or in different gay rights movements, and they are some of the most wonderful people that I know. The people that I meet here are kind, generous, and open. (Even those who pretend to be obnoxious, like u-dog, or Andy, are really just pussycats) (But don't tell them I said that)

Yeah, I guess I'm just another one of those straight allies, even if I do really only find my home in the gay community. I mean, I like females.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

I do too, Bruce!!

Seriously, thanks to the Mississippi student who came to the realization that this is a civil rights issue. I appreciate that there are some people out there who are on our side and who do take a stand sometimes at personal risk to themselves. Sometimes all it takes is for a bigoted person to actually meet and talk with a gay person to see that yes, they are really human, and have emotions and have real tears and fears. Sadly, in my family, I was disowned after them knowing and living with me for nearly 40 years. All of a sudden I am diseased and not worth the time or effort. I am now considered by my Southern Baptist family, a reprobate sinner incapable of salvation.

Funny how that judgment masks itself as love.

Question: I thought that the Soulforce rides had ended? I didn't know that they were still going on, as school is out for the summer in most places. "Get out of town"? wow. MC student-welcome! We have much in common, as I joined the SF forums after the Equality Ride came to my school. I, too, aim to "bridge the gap" and have really benefited from knowing the people here. Blessings!

Its been awhile since I've checked the site, last semester finals were coming up and things got so busy, and I forgot about it over the summer... Tonight for some reason procrastination brought the SF forum to the front of my mind, so here I am, haha... So yes.. I'm still 'lurking' occasionally.

Smile Love you openess

Fist of all, welcome to Soulforce. I read your post and was very impressed by your openness to see another side. I believe that young people like yourself can and will change many things now and in the future. I agree that Mississippi does get a bad rap but possibly you could share with us happenings in your state.

Gennee

It still amazes me that people like MCstudent exist while in the Bible Belt. I guess they actually read the Bible instead of pound people on the head with it, pick and choose which Scriptures they like and then use the rest to condemn and villify a whole group of people. I am proud of you MC, keep up the faith and we hope you join us regularly.

"There is NOW, therefore, NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ Jesus." Hmm, is that one verse the fundies forgot?

Default how terribly sad

That happened here also. The riders came to Cornerstone college in Michigan and the college would not let them in. Its a very conservative Chrisitian college. There was a big tado about it last year because it says in theri admission policy that gay people are not welcome there. The college blocked the drive and would not let them on campus.

It upset me something terrible and I cried about it that Michigan could be so backwards and discriminatory. On the other hand, Calvin college, another private Christian college welcomed Soulforce with open arms and had good talks with them. It was a positive experience for all.

MC, please don't feel you need to feel bad for all the other people in Mississippi who are not open minded. The fact that you are one mind and heart that has opened up is a wonderful thing. Welcome to Soulforce!

Rebekah
