Default Dayton Ohio passes GLBT Ordinance

Many local churches tried to stop this ordinance but they couldn't.

Dayton Makes History
November 21, Dayton City Commission voted and passed the newly proposed Nondiscrimination Ordinace that included Sexual Oreintation and Gender Identity!!!
All of our work over the past months has finally paid off!
The votes were:
Mayor Rhine McLin - Yea
Commissioner Matt Joseph - Yea
Commissioner Dean Lovelace - Nea
Commissioner Nan Whaley - Yea
Commissioner Joey Williams - Abstained
We are now the 15th city in Ohio to have nondiscrination ordinances that include our LGBT population!
I ask now that we all give thanks to Mayor McLin, Commissioner Joseph and Commissioner Whaley. Please, send them a card, e-mail or phone message giving them thanks for their vote and support of our community. They have shown their support for us, now we must show our support for them!

That is great news! Equality-one small step at a time. Hey, if we can't take the mountain all at once, we will take one hill at a time.

Does Ohio have a ban on gay marriage written into its constitution?

Hey, good news!!!

May Scottsdale follow in the footsteps of Dayton next week (the vote in S is scheduled for Tuesday.)

Are thank-you emails from out-of-staters overkill?

PNG - As I recall, Ohio has an amendment, yes. It was voted in 2004 I believe. The one they proposed for AZ was almost verbatim exactly the same as the one in OH.

But AZ didn't pass the amendment, right?

Yes, they passed an amendment to Ohio's constitution two years ago.

Andy
There were many, many, people that helped get this city ordinance passed. The mayor has been a great ally!

That's cool.

I sent thank you emails to Scottsdale's city councilmembers who voted to increase protections for Scottsdale city employees (mixing threads here), and to the mayor who supported it. I received personal replies from two of them. It was nice to see them appreciating the positive comments. Given the negativity surrounding the issue, I am glad.

That's great news about Scottsdale! Maybe we can change things city by city.
