Post Mel White

I am presently reading 'Religion Gone Bad' by Mel White. Rarely have I read a book that I cannot put down and this is one of them. Rev. White is right about the things he speaks about especially with fundamental Christians. What disturbs me is that these people attack and marginalized LGBT people and call themselves 'God's children.' It seems like an oxymoron to me.
The idea that they want to 'Christianize' the nation reminds of what happened in the 15th and 16th centuries when many brave men and women dared to challenge the religious establishment. As time has proven, they were right. God is moving in a different direction and these folks fear losing their influence. It's a shame because many have been turned off to God, the bible, and Christianity because of the extremist views of these conservative Christian leaders.
Jesus wins hearts through love, not might, fear, and threats. I bvelieve that it's time for many mainline Christians to study the bible for themselves. I was blessed to have pastors who told me this and I thank them immensely for this sound advice. Someday I may do an in-depth study of the positions that they hold.

Default Glad you're reading Mel

Genee,
I found Religion Gone Bad impossible to put down, too. Kind of like Harry Potter, but with real stakes. What we need is midnight parties at bookstores when books like this are released.

I've not read the book, but to me, it is reminiscent of what the Israelites did to the indigenous people there in order to claim the promised land.

Not that the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered are indigenous, but we are a group of people trying to call the same society home, and which is in the way of complete ownership.
