Default Transgender or not?

This link will take you to a story on NPR yesterday, about two different parental approaches to their son's gender conflicts. Very interesting and compelling to read/listen to. I understand the fear of labelling a child at a young age, however, to forbid a child to play with toys due to trying to put off/avoid possible gender identity issues, kind of smacks of a type of conversion therapy used against gays and lesbians........

Talking Got Ilk?

I just watched “For the Bible Tells Me So,” and at some point the connection was made that fellow students, of a transgendered student, will be “exposed” to this whole “gay” thing. (It must have been Mel White)

Point being, every time a youth comes out as gay or transgendered, all the kids around them are suddenly “exposed” to the truth of the situation -- and there is no way that Focus on the Family and similar orgs can ever take that back -- even for those who look upon it with disdain.

Those kids and their parents will grow up understanding that not only is there such a thing as being gay or transgendered, but also that there is such a thing as being openly and unashamedly gay and/or transgendered.

Think about it. It just takes one student/youth “hero” to innoculate an ENTIRE school from the lies of James Dobson and ilk.

I caught some of this story yesterday on the way home. some of it was sweet, and other parts were so very sad. the little boy who was beat up by some older boys at the playground.....I wish I'd have had the time to hear the whole report. I'm going to find some time today to go take a look at the link.....very busy here today.

OMG! I feel as a mother and as a therapist that Zuckers treatment is unethical as well. I thought the idea here was to raise emotionally healthy children, no matter what. I guess we will see a boy(Bradley) that will have to lie and be very angry about women and relationships. It's complete bullcrap that surgery is way to hard and hormones are way to much trouble for a child to grow up normal and happy. I realize this is a lot of surgey and meds, what if this child had Celiac Disease? Huntingtos Disease or Cerebal Palsey? The child would need continual surgeries to release tendons, prevent drooling, aling bones etc, and also meds to prevent tremors etc etc. Is that TOO much work to grow up happy and normal for a disabled child?
