Default Gambia to kill all gays

President plans to kill off every single homosexual

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh says he will “cut off the head” of any homosexual caught in his country.

Monday 19 May 2008

Addressing supporters at the end of his meet the farmers tour here Sunday, Jammeh also ordered any hotel or motel housing homosexuals to close down, adding that owners of such facilities would also be in trouble.

He said the Gambia was a country of believers, indicating that no sinful and immoral act as homosexual would be tolerated in the country.

He warned all homosexuals in the country to leave, noting that a legislation “stricter than those in Iran ” concerning the vice would be introduced soon.

Default Wow!

What a great representative of Christ this country's leader appears to be.

This is pretty scary stuff. I will keep all those under rule of this person in my thoughts and prayers. Have you heard of any response to organizations that may be looking to assist those in the country that need to get out??

What??!!!!?

Oh god!!!

Yes, what organizations are taking action on this? I would expect Amnesty to take action. What else/who else? What can we do from our snug little homes in the west?

Wow, I can't believe such hostility comes from this African country. No other African country has problems with violent behavior against minorities in it. The whole continent is the model for civil rights and peaceful nonviolent means of revolution and change. (hint, hint, very sarcastic)

Are you kidding me? Unbelievable! Well, it really is believable I guess. Doesn't really surprise me. I hope all glbt Gambians hitch the first flight outta there.

You are right as usual Zerb, Amnesty International should get involved...

Isn't the President of Gambia a Muslim? I mean, his full name is Abdul Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh. Besides, 90% of Gambian population are Muslims, according to wikipedia.

Don't assume that all anti-LGBT bigotry is Christian! Gambia is a majority muslim country and the president is a muslim.

Let's not also assume that all muslims are this bigoted. They aren't.

Being religious is no excuse for being a bigot!

Alecto, thanks for fixing it for me, however, I intended to emphasize African country. The point was that Africa has a long and illustrious history of being hateful and mean to their own people. Not by any far stretch excusing how white people treated them, but they have been just as horrible to their own people. I just wonder when this madness will end and it is interesting to study how it got that way. It is interesting to look at how America came to be the way it is...

Guess I won't be going on safari there or anything. Sheesh what a nut. "Oh no, we're not gonna worry about droughts or wars or famine or AIDS or any of the other bad things in our country. We'll just kill all the queers. That'll fix everything."

This reminds of the poem about how first the Nazis came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew, and then they came for the Communists, the trade unionists, the Gypsies, etc etc and by the time they got to me there was no one left to speak up.

Makes me wonder who the next scapegoat will be after they kill all of the gays.

Yeah, I mentioned that in reference to Paul's quote above. The statement made it feel as though religion had something to do with it in this case, as it was a significant portion of the quote. My mistake was probably assuming from the quote that it had something to do with the religion Christianity, appears I'm wrong on that one. I agree, not all bigotry is religion-based. But we can't ignore that a good bit of it is. In this case, if the quote above is true, I would have to say that religion is probably part of it.
