Default Exodus conference participants

I was accidentally sent a small list of potential Exodus conference attendees' email addresses.

Any ideas to reach out to these folks?

Nate

I am considering going to the Exodus conference... I want to experience what so many glbt people are getting sucked into.

So I did a partial registration on their site, and they sent that email out to the "partial registrants" to encourage people to complete the registration... and they didn't put the email addresses in the BCC field.

Finances are my main reason for not going at this point. I think going to their conference will give me more focus, more knowledge, and more passion to reach glbt people who are teetering on the brink of "exgay" teaching.

So, we'll see.

Default holy cow

Nathan,

I actually find their conduct (not preserving their potential attendees' anonymity) to be somewhat shocking. Who the **** sends out an email like that without masking addresses from other participants.

Does this strike anyone else as totally ridiculous? Maybe the folks at exgaywatch.com would be interested in the email you received Nathan ... they are covering the conference.

Peace to all!

Matt

Thanks Matt.

I was just about to rant and rave about what Exodus did. How dare they allow people who, presumably (obviously?) are in some conflict about a highly sensitive personal matter, to have their email addresses distributed publicly like that?!?! That is a horrendous violation of privacy.

Nathan, I strongly encourage you to contact Exodus and complain about the breach of privacy. That is simply frightening.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are welcome to go to the conference. Most of the speaker would be happy to talk with you. Randy Thomas' lastest audio blog post welcomes all to the conference. I have also found Randy pretty willing to talk. I have learned that you cannot push issues too much with him, but some dialog can be had.

I would invite all of us to go if I had the money. I bet we could reach out and solve at least something.

I was already clear on being able to go. Just wasn't sure if I could afford it or take the time off work.

Default Exodus Conference in Indiana

Are y'all talking about the Exodus conference in Marion, Indiana on June 27th - July 2nd? I might be interested in going as an outreach to ex-gays. If there are people from SoulForce planning to go I might like to join y'all.

Nate,

Going and reaching out to them is one thing. But I know if I got an e-mail from someone because my address wasn’t hidden I would be VERY pissed... and feel kind of violated by the intrusion.

If you have their names and look for them at the conference to talk to then I say go for it. But sending them an e-mails may be a little intrusive.

I have to say, I'm with Venari. If I got such an email, I would be freaked out, and I'm sure I would miss the loving intentions behind it in the midst of being freaked by the loss of privacy (which is Exodus' fault).
