It was a "cliff-hanger". The Daleks had stolen planet earth along with 26 other planets and hidden them in some fold of time/space. Prime Minister Harriet Jones organizes the various companions of the Doctor to fight back (Torchwood, Sarah james and Adam, Martha Jones, and of course... Rose.

Torchwood is actually an anagram for Doctor Who...now you too can amaze your friends at parties; God I'm such a Geek!!!
