Obama buys half hour air time on CBS

Sen. Barack Obama has purchased a half-hour of airtime on CBS.

"The Obama campaign will air a half-hour primetime special on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. Sources say the Obama camp is also in talks with NBC and Fox. NBC is said to be very near a deal. With Fox, the matter is likely to remain uncertain as the time period could conflict with Game 6 of the World Series."

NBC has been confirmed too, presumably for the same timeslot.

Apparently, this type of campaigning used to be more common in the past than in the past few elections. The last candidate to do this was Ross Perot.

In our house, we're wondering if Senator Obama might roll out details on some kind of a 'New Deal' during these network blocks. Or, he may just use it to respond strongly to the scurrilous negative attacks that will surely have started to dominate the election cycle by then.

I suspect that whatever he intends to do, it's based upon a reasoned strategy.

If Obama uses this time slot to address the financial crisis think of the visual symbolism. Since this thing has started "W." has been practically invisible. He pops out of the white house for these little press statements and then runs back in. He has NOT addressed the congress nor has he addressed the nation from the Oval Office. HE HAS NOT BEEN PRESIDENTIAL !!!

So Obama buys a half hour of time and stands before the nation looking presidential (which he has been doing very effectively lately) and lays out his plan, and reassures the country.

SOunds like a powerful and effective use of Daniel's (and my) money to me! ... if thats what he's planning. He may do something dumb too... who knows.

And pleaded for calm and the market promptly went down. As discussed later by those in the financial realm, he had no concrete plan to offer, so there was not need to listen.

I don't know about this presidential thing.

Is anyone listening to the man?
