People confusing possessives with plurals.

I don't know, maybe I am just a little to anal about this.
So, what you're saying is that not only did their ad get your attention, it actually got you to enter the establishment. Impressive!

It got my attention alright, but not to purchase a condo. It got my attention because of the sheer waste of money on that sign, and the fact that nobody had said anything except me! I thought ,"Geez, were you people absent on the day they taught the difference between plurals and possessives or were you asleep, writing a note to your bf, daydreaming, or otherwise out to lunch? Or do you just not give a rat's ass?"

They may be really nice condos, but I wouldn't own one simply because I think there are illiterate people running it.

Default PNG: In addition to posessives, it's a fact that apostrophies

Are also used with contractions. It's a fact that it is not going to go well with you when your cohorts discover that you're making a mistake with your usage.

Peace, Love, and a little teasing, Bruce Chris

I had to go look up possessives, so I could make sure I remembered what they were and make sure that I don't mess them up. I don't really have a problems with those, the only apostrophes I screw up on are the it's, its I think. That's just because I don't pay attention though; because when I do, I don't make that mistake.

Knowing when to us the apostrophe in its is very simple, could it be replaced by it is?

My problem is punctuation more than anything else.

OK, I can't keep myself from joining in .... Nothing drives me crazy like the use of "your" instead of "you're". I once saw it used on a sign posted all over a electronics store. When I brought it to the attention of the clerk, his response was "Are you an English teacher?" AAAGGGGGG!!!!!

OMG! Are you kidding me? Since when does one have to be an English to know how to spell or punctuate correctly? I mean, are all English teachers just beating their heads against a brick wall when we teach these skills? Should we just say, "It's ok kids, spell phonetically, or just spell it like you think it is spelled, and don't worry about punctuation. You write like you talk anyway, so who cares?"

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! I need my Zoloft!

I realize not everyone has the spelling gene. I realize not everyone has the capacity for learning grammar, but if it doesn't come naturally, one should at least make good use of the toolbar under grammar and spelling. I mean that is why God created it, right?

You are not wasting your time! As a student, I can tell you that I really appreciate having my grammar and spelling corrected. I don't want to be making those mistakes, especially now that we can communicate so much online.

There is no spelling gene in my opinion and there are very few people who are incabable of learning. I think it's just about having a good teacher and starting at a young age. I was a horrible speller, until it was forced on me in the 5th or 6th grade. I have mild dyslexia, so spelling definately helped me (recognizing word patterns). Come to think of it, that's probably why I can't stand improper grammar either; I'm not a strong enough reader to fill in the blanks.

Not a spelling nazi - but it drives me crazy when people read numbers and say "oh" instead of "zero". It's a number not a letter. But I never say anything to anyone about it. It just grates on my ears and that's it. Now, I've finally vented. Thanks!
