Default Lesbian couple on the Tyra Banks show

The other night, Tyra had a lesbian who was getting married and her parents didn't want to go to her wedding. They believed that being gay was a sin and that you would go to hell for it.

okay... well, being that Ive seen America's Next top Model and that Tyra works with two gay men (Mr. and Mrs. Jay), I assumed that tyra didn't think anything was wrong with gay people.

She may feel that way but when she was talking to the lesbians mother, she asked her why, out of all the sins that a person can do, why is it THIS one that scares her off. She also noted that murderers have their parents come see them and whatever else by why her daughter being a lesbian, couldn't she go the wedding. The mother replied that one man and one woman become flesh. Not two women and two men.

What kind of suprised me was that Tyra said that basically being gay is a sin in the bible but that the mother should go because she loved her.

I try not to let these things bother me but for some reason I didn't like that. I mean, I liked her point but sometimes I wonder about people who say things like that. I just wonder if they ever thought or questioned if being gay is REALLY a sin or what. I dunno. If you guys have seen it, let me know what you think. I kinda got upset at Tyra for it but I understand her point and where she comes from. Cause after all, people believe what they are told sometimes.

I'll bet she was trying to make a point but put her foot in her mouth in the process.

Honestly? I kinda really hate Tyra. I didn't see this specific show, but she kind of rings of that straight-girl-who-collects-pet-gay-boys vibe, so it doesn't surprise me at all that she doesn't really get the full scope of any of the issues.

Well, she does not strike me as the brightest crayon in the box or anything like that! That point aside, I think alot of people are like "well, it's a sin, but it's not THAT bad". Unfortunately, I think that makes it almost worse, because I persoanlly would rather have someone hate me than be so patronizing to me that they are ok because I am not sinning as much as some do....it is a slap in the face. Hate me for being gay, or accept me, it's better that way.

Yea, I think this was the case because im pretty sure she accepts gay people. I guess what made me a little upset is that i didnt realize how many people who were taught that it was sin. I cant expect people to just say it isnt when they werent taught that way.

I bet Tyra doesn't think it's a sin. She was just trying to find out why the mom was so upset. Tyra just didn't phrase it very clearly.

I watch Top Model and I really like it. To me it is like watching a Nat. Geographic special about a foreign country. People who live far away from me and have strange exotic customs.

Yeah, if you really pay attention to what she says, you can read it as somewhat accepting also. She probably just didn't phrase it very well. Sometimes, people want to not be thought a bigot, so they go out of their ways to sound accepting but really sound more bigoted than if they had left well enough alone! Kinda like "better to close your mouth and be though a fool than to open it and remove all doubt".

I'm a huge fan of America's Next Top Model so that has kind of led me to watch her show from time to time. I will agree that I think she was trying to speak from the mom's point of view that the bible says it's a sin but didn't say it well. I posted a thread not long ago about the Westborough Baptist Church and included a video of the leader's daughter and her daughters on the Tyra Show. One of my favorite parts of the video was when Tyra said "What did you call me again?" They replied "a fag enabler." She got a little grin on her face and looked at the audience and camera and said "I'm a fag enabler" Just convinces me that she not only doesn't think it's wrong, she loves that she supports the gay community.

I don't think Tyra thinks being gay is actually wrong. She just said to the mom "well you say that the bible says being gay is a sin, and it does..but why is it this sin that makes you..."
