Default Why has everyone been so quiet lately?

I see that people have been logging on frequently, as usual, but most of us haven't been posting. We can't be out of things to share with one another.

What everyone been up to lately?

I haven't felt much like talking I guess. We did have some people from Phelp's church here in the big city a few weeks ago. They were over by the courthouse across from the convention center. I asked the counter-protesters why the Phelpies were there and they told me that there was some court decision that was friendly to gays and that the Phelpies came by every year on the anniversary. I would have liked to learned the particulars. The counter-protesters were all college kids I think. It made me feel old.

I have been wrapped up in the drama at work and all the stress there. I have a boss who is not very good at communicating and really good at being bossy.

I do log on but I dont often post. I find myself to be very angry about not being treated as human because I am gay and I am sick of it, and a bit depressed about the whole thing these days. I find myself struggling and not being very social. Sometimes I get to facebook, but that has not been the top of my list either. I sometimes chat with my friends by IM but not that much lately.

I think I just need to see the sun here in Michigan for awhile and it will help my attitude greatly.

Redneck, sorry that you didn't get to join the counter-protesters... I think Phelp's people always deserve a protest.

Tyme, sorry that work has been such a negative thing for you. As for the sun, know that Washington people are suffering with you... we're getting a little now that it's spring, but still not enough.

What about everyone else, this thread has had a lot of views... only a couple posts...

Default Jen, I suspect that aside from Prop. 8, there just may not be a lot of gay news out

There. . My big project these days is helping out a young transwoman, who showed up in town with almost no resources, financial or otherwise. She found a place to stay out of town, then she found our church, and now she's staying with one of our members.

I fixed up her bicycle, and set her up with a lock. She lost the keys, so I got her a combination lock. She can keep the combo on her cell phone.

She has a computer that she can use, to try to find work, but she had no wireless link. I couldn't find her a working link(Ever try to find a wireless driver for Windows 98?), but I found a friend who can install an operating system that has it's own driver.

Minnesota Voc. Rehab. is just 10 min. away by bicycle, and she qualifies for their services. And they have their own internet computers.

Damn but Minneapolis can be a very trans friendly place!

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

I haven't been around because my school's website blocked all things gay and lesbian related, whereas they didn't last year. So...but I try to get on at least once a day when I get home. I miss talking to you guys.

Now see....if THIS was what all Christianity was all about, I'd have no problem with it at all.

I've been busy trying to get a job but the economy just won't give me a break in that department.

I've also been busy signing up for Massage Therapy School, taking care of my dog, hanging out with friends and my husband.

I log on daily and read the posts but I don't always have time to post anything myself.

Bruce, we both know that a lack of 'gay news' isn't an excuse for a lack of discussion here. We usually do talk about anything.

I'm glad to hear that you have been helping that young woman out. I'm sure she is very grateful. You're very sweet.

Mean ! I'm sorry that you have to put up with that. If only they could understand how sweet this group is.

I agree Rick!
The only reason that I'm not against Christianity, is because of all the Christians like Bruce that I know.

Thanks Bruce for giving us a little faith in the christian community.

I'm sorry that you haven't been able to find a job. I hope that school will be more successful!

I hope you're enjoying your time with loved ones. They are the silver lining.

As for me being quiet, that's quite unusual .
Allow me to vent for a moment.

I was really busy with school stuff. I still have some work to do in the next month. Then in the fall, I'll be in a program that allows me to do high school and college at the same time. I'll take classes at the community college and those credits count towards my AA and my high school diploma. I was sick of high school, so I'm very excited about that.

There was also just a lot going on emotionally for me.
I was dealing with my mom's boyfriend, who I don't like.
I was dealing with my 'Uncle' Jerry, who I love to death and has been more of a father to me than mine was. I love him completely, but it's upsetting to think of all the lost time because of a 'fight' he and my mom had a few years ago.
Then was my friends parents, who I kind of think of as surrogate parents... but they've been fighting and it's hard for me to understand why, since I've talked a lot to each of them individually. Mostly, I think that the lack of work is problem.
Then there's my half-sister, who I never really got along with that well... but she called me on my birthday and we've been chatting a little. That has to be the most stressful thing, because she still talks to our father. I can't understand that because I know that when he started treating me the way he treated her, I was done with him. I feel bad for her, because she will most likely continue to be hurt by the way he treats her.

I wanted to talk to everyone here about it all, because it felt very overwhelming at the time. However, I also realized that in the past then I've posted at my weakest moments, things come across too strongly. I didn't want that to happen again, since I knew it would pass.

Vent over, I had to have a little distance before I could share.

Yeah, I think Washington is the 1st least sunniest state, Michigan is number 2! My best friend in the world is from Seattle.

Wow Jen, you've had a ton of stuff going on!!! Gosh, you should feel ok to come on board here and vent anytime you need to. We all gotta let out some steam now and then. I can't imagine what you've been going through.

Don't forget to take some 'time out' just for you. Pamper yourself and do something special, just for "YOU".

I've never been to Michigan, but I'm sure it's very similar. The gray here definitely gives you an appreciation for the sun and a little heat!

I like having a place to vent, but in the past I've made things sound a lot worse than they were. Sometimes you do need to 'sleep on it'. I love having this safe place to talk. The people here are so loving!

What has everyone else been up to? Zerbie? Daniel? Everyone...

Jen, you are a wonderful individual. Just remember, that what you do now is shaping the person you will be in the future. That is a constant. Even in difficult times, whether mildly hard or outright impossible, take a step back when you can and try to 'savor' it, because down the road, those experiences will be a part of what made you, 'you'.

You are a real sweetie, and a smart girl, and although I don't get involved in every conversation, I read your words and get something out of them every time.

Default I'm still reeling from the hope Obama poses.

And I just learned yesterday that should anything "befall" the president and the vice president, the speaker of the House, Ms. Pelosi, would be next in line.

Awe, thanks.
I try to keep that in mind when things get tough.

Funny that you mention this, my family got into quite an argument about this. Yes, the speaker of the house would take over. However, it is only temporary. As soon as we are able to hold another election, she's out. Also, if she had to take over, she would have to relinquish her position as speaker of the house. So, after a new election could take place she would not be able to go back to being speaker of the house. She would be treated as a former president though and she would get the security that is equal to what Bush/Clinton/etc. get.

Thanks for the civics lesson, I seriously have to brush up on that.

No problem.
It's the only thing you could have mentioned that would have gotten a response which was more than, "huh?". I don't usually know anything about this kind of thing.

I checked up on her and darned if the girl isn't right ! I was surprised to learn that only the Vice-President can become President through succession. Everyone else in the line of Succession only becomes "acting President"

Just a pity that she couldn't have done it many years earlier.
