Full of Joy

May is here already, so the nice warm weather is not far behind. Today I am so joyful inside. It was in May 2005 that my transition to my true self began. Looking back, it was something that was inevitable. It was an event that I never figured would have an impact on me the way it has.

There's nothing like being at peace with myself. I have felt comfortable with my identity for a while however over the past two months I have really been totally comfortable like never before. It was that I would be a little fazed when someone stared at me. Perhaps they read me. Now when it happens I just smile and they do likewise. It's more natural now.

May is a time when all trees and flower are budding. That's what happened to me regarding my real gender identity. It was like spring blossomed internally. I'm joyful that completeness and liberation replaced the inner tensions I experienced. The joy I feel in my heart today is overflowing.

Hi, Aunt Nae Nae! I'm glad your heart is full of joy now that you are comfortable with who you are. When I look at you, I don't see a transgender person. All I see is Aunt Nae Nae, a sweet and loving, caring human being who deserves a million and one hugs and kisses because we all love you so much. That's who I see. I'm not quite comfortable with who I am yet, but I am trying to get there. I just wish Christianity and the rest of the world would see past what we are and start seeing who we really are, a gay woman and a transgender person who aren't sinning because we are different, but instead two unique individuals who have a lot to offer and can't change who we are to become something we're not. Wouldn't that be nice?

I wish for the same thing, Dakota. It's why I am still involved with the church. I grew up in church and I strongly believe that the church should be at the forefront of human rights.
