Default "Do homosexuals hate Christians?"

Read this ridiculous article from the American Family Association's news website:

"You know, do homosexuals really hate Christians and do Christians hate homosexuals? Or has this been another product of the biased media?"

Rick
Hi Rick

Of course we can't say everyone in group X hates group Y or visa versa, as that's seriously stereotyping...but generally, uhm, gays aren't really fond of Christians... And, visa versa...

When someone tells you that the only way you ever fall in love deserves that you be sent to the eternal flames of hell, and they preach that if you repent and believe, you will be delivered from your evil lusts (it's never really "love" to them), and you do believe them and do repent, and it doesn't happen, they have presented a God who is seemingly going to hurt you forever for at least leaving you the way it seems He made you. They have painted you into a corner where if they are believed, you don't hate them, but "God". And worse, they have painted God into the opposite one by promising that if you -A-, He will -B-, and when He doesn't, it can only be because either you didn't really -A- right or enough, or, God hates you and has abandoned you as a reprobate (that He really is fine with you being gay and saved you anyway, never crosses their mind)... If you get through that and start listening to God instead of them, it is difficult not to hate those who have lied to you about Him and caused so much fear... Sadly, yes. A lot of homosexuals loathe Christians, and for a horrible, but logical, good reason...

Hopefully they manage to finally see through them, recognize the well meaning ignorance, and understand that they are operating under a false image of Him which is causing them enough pain and confusion that they are to pitied, and we can love them anyway.

This is a capacity to love that even they are missing, and our needless fear they inspired, opens up to a greater love that they just call lust anyway...

Christians on the other hand, true Christians, do not hate anyone, but hate the sin... It is a hackneyed mantra rarely lived up to, but the principle is beautiful and edifying if achieved... unfortunately, where gays are concerned, they cannot define the line where being gay, and just doing gay things lies... They hate what (they imagine) we do, but do not know if a second glance of shared attraction, a date, holding hands, or sex itself, is the damnable behavior they are supposed to hate. So they tend to just waft a righteous hate in our direction and don't concern themselves where it sticks. We can be gay and still die a virgin... One is not a thief unless they steal. ~Their confusion results in the impression that we as people are hated (and some certainly relish it just as an excuse to hate something), but most Christians don't waste the strain it takes to hate on anything but "evil" itself.

As C.S. Lewis said, hate is not the opposite of love; indifference is.

Awe: The term that I have come up with is "Militant Ignorance"

And as someone pointed out in the Comments section, some of us ho-mo-SEX-ewe-alls do have our OWN churches.

Sums up the "mood" well.

Most fundis aren't really arguing against homosexuality at all. They are arguing for the claim of inerrancy of the Bible. If they are wrong in this case, and God really does accept one as a homosexual (or God forbid, actually created some that way), then their Bible (or understanding of it- a distinction unmade) has a chink, and is, gulp, WRONG in at least this area... It rocks their faith in everything... We aren't just sinners like everyone else, we are unapologetic ones- demons trying to sway them from their faith.

I believe those who profess to be Christian but act in ways that do not support it, are not really true Christians. They take the name, then spend enormous amounts of time and energy to strip away rights of GLBT people. They spew out hate, based on fear, based on ignorance. And the evilest of these manage to manipulate the sheeple into hating us too. Then they all get together and sing some songs and think about what great Christians they are.

There are true Christians, that follow the two commandments of Jesus, the second of which is to love other like themselves. We do have a good sized contingency of Christians who support equality and are fighting this with us.

Today was Sacramento PRIDE. It was a great day. We marched, even as the fake Christians walked along side of us carrying their ugly hateful signs and spewing out ugly hateful words. But the energy and voices of the crowd marching drowned it out, along with the signs we carried and the huge "All people created equal" sign covering up the worst of the offenders as the parade passed by them. Love overcomes hate, and beauty conquers ugliness.

Can't argue with any of that...

Went to my hometown pridefest (heard it was voted like second best small "pride event" in the country) last weekend... Won't do the Denver thing... The thirty foot inflatable ID lube bottle that towers above everything else just makes me cringe too much...

You should come to Sacramento. From what I've hard of some other parades, it's super mild. Not that I mind folks being creative and letting loose. I personally have nothing against that. But the Sac PRIDE parade and event is total family fun. They even had a great kid zone this year full of jumping houses, slides, etc. I got to watch the entire parade and then join in at the end with my group. It was great fun with nary an embarrassing or outlandish moment.

I've been to many, and they are always a kick and loads of fun... The TV friendly Bill O'Reily gross out images are pretty rare... I'm just over it.

I believe that LGBT People don't hate Christians, but I think, we maybe "hate" those kind of Christians who try to oppress us or want to make us to 2nd class citizens (e.g. the LDS in California). And if it is so I can understand it. We must fight for our rights, they want to keep us away fom that.
