Default Openly gay columnist John Corvino comes out

From 365gay.com News:

"I suppose what bugs me most is the double standard. Religious believers can make the most outrageous claims (God is three persons in one? His mother on earth is a virgin? Amy Grant can sing?) and yet meet with a polite reception. But if atheists boldly state their views, they’re accused of being arrogant."

Rick
I can identify with this. I grew up without religion (in the 1960s and '70s) because my parents weren't believers, and they felt taking the kids to church just to "fit in" wasn't fair to the people who did believe. My Mom caught quite a bit of flack for that from well-meaning friends and acquaintances who thought that kids raised without religion would grow up without a sense of right and wrong. Well, my sister, brother and I turned out okay. None of us became career criminals, serial killers or child molesters.

Athiests are arrogant? What about this attitude that if you have no religion you have no moral compass? And also the assumption that religious people have "better" morals? Plenty of supposedly religious people have turned out to be crooks or adulterers.

Thanks for talking about this. I'll be watching this thread, and telling my Mom about it.
