In my experience, cops are bullies. Law Enforcement is filled with people who are full of themselves and think they run the world. They are same jerks who were bullies in high school. Only now they have a job where they have free reign to bully people.

"Police say they were conducting a routine bar inspection -- the third of the night -- on Sunday around 1 a.m. when they arrived at the Rainbow Lounge and arrested patrons on suspicion of public intoxication. They say Gibson grabbed an officer’s crotch and exhibited signs of alcohol poisoning."

Gibson grabbed the officer's crotch? BULLSHIT!!!

This is exactly the same thing the damn Minneapolis cops said I did when they arrested me at the Y'all Come Back Saloon in 1982. And then in court the cops lied on the witness stand.

Still, we won in court.

Ft. Worth gays can expect the cops there to do the exact same thing. They will lie! But take them to court anyway!!!

This is a classic example of the Gay Panic Defense. In the very recent past all a straight man who brutally murdered a gay man had to say was, "He made a pass at me!", and the jury would ignore the evidence and let the murderer off. The Gay Panic Defense doesn't fly in many courts of law these days but it still has currency in the court of public opinion. And the chief of police in Forth Worth, a major U.S. city, is attempting to use the Gay Panic Defense to convince the citizens of Fort Worth to ignore the evidence—to ignore photographic evidence and credible eyewitness accounts—and let his officers off.

In short, the gay panic defense is being invoked. Pretty sick stuff, which plays into the conservative belief that being gay is sinful, bad and worthy of punishment.

I don't believe it for a second that that police entering a gay bar ar going to be groped by anyone. Ludicrous. Absolute projection. And even if it was so (which it isn't), how does does touching somome translate into bashing their head in?

Insane and stupid. And total bullshit (thank you Rick!) on the part of the police. As one man involved put it in Savage's article: we're gay but we're not stupid.

However, it seems the that the police chief of Fort Worth thinks the public is.

The Fort Worth City Council this week unanimously passed a resolution calling on the U.S. Attorney’s Office to conduct a complete and independent investigation into the June 28 raid at the Rainbow Lounge.


The council also voted to establish the City Manager’s Diversity Task Force, intended to specifically address LGBT issues.

The votes came Tuesday, July 21, one week after a marathon council meeting that included more than 20 citizens expressing concern over the incident. During the July 14 meeting, each council member voiced support for Mayor Mike Moncrief’s call for the U.S. Attorney’s Office to review results of the Fort Worth Police Department’s two ongoing internal investigations — one by the Internal Affairs Division, and one by the Major Case Squad.

Both Fort Worth PD investigations and a similar investigation under way at the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission are focusing on determining whether officers with the two agencies used excessive force during the raid, and on exactly how Chad Gibson was injured that night.

Gibson, 26, was among the five people arrested for public intoxication during the June 28 raid on the recently opened gay nightclub. He suffered a brain injury during the arrest that left him hospitalized for a week.

Fort Worth police officers and TABC agents said Gibson was injured when he fell on the sidewalk outside the bar because of extreme intoxication. But witnesses inside the bar at the time have said he was injured when officers first pushed him into a wall and then threw him to the floor to handcuff him.
