My name is Laura, I'm 29, and I currently live in Northeast Houston. I'm writing this thread because I'm kind of having a hard time and I'm looking for advice/support/friends/anything?
After spending almost five years of my life working for a Christian organization overseas I was forced to resign when I finally admitted to myself and told my boss I was gay. I had to leave the country and everything that meant anything to me: my job, my house, my friends, my church, the kids I ministered to, my life. On top of that, the girl that I've been dating and truly thought was who I would spend the rest of my life with broke up with me due to pressure from her parents and her job. I've been in Houston living with my parents for over two months now (and feeling like a total loser). I don't know very many people because I've been gone for so long, and I live in a community where there is no one my age and certainly no one who understands me. I'd love to get involved in some kind of support group, make some new friends, find a great church, volunteer, get a part-time job, something... Any help? Thanks Laura |

For me finding a faith community where I could be authentic made a world of difference in my life. I'll copy below some of the best ones I've used. http://www.welcomingresources.org/directory.htm http://www.christianlesbians.com/congregations/ http://www.welcomingchurches.com/ Hang in there, and know that moments of crises like you're going through are also transformational moments. How well do your parents accept you? If you are comfortable living at home, you have a big advantage, although I assume that you will want to move out eventually.
You will want a life where you can be both an honest christian, and an honest lesbian. It can be done, and more and more of us are doing it. You have courage, to admit your situation to your church organization. You'll get there. Incidentally, Christianlesbians.com is now http://www.sisterfriends-together.org/, and their referral site is now http://www.sisterfriends-together.org/find-a-church/ And I've worked with Rev. Rebecca, at WelcomingResources, she's great. http://www.welcomingresources.org/ There is a substantial LGBT community in Houston. I have no idea if you can arrange it with your parents, to be able to get in contact with them. You can of course come here for friendship and advice, people do it all the time. Just check out some of the threads under "Hello, my name is..... I guess that most of what you will have to deal with depends on whether you can get a job, and just what your relationship with your parents is. Is that a sensitive subject? What can you tell us? Waiting to hear from you, Bruce Chris

welcome! i admire your strength in going through all you've gone through in the last few months. "All shall be well." you may try the metropolitan community church(es) in the Houston area. there may even be more than one to chose from. MCC is predominantly glbt people so you'd fit right in and the larger ones have a lot going on so you can meet people and makes connections.
I'll be praying for you!
