A comment posted on The Advocate recently. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Name: Don in Atlanta Date posted: 8/17/2009 1:52:00 PM Hometown: Atlanta Comment: The most important thing in this article is when Clinton said, "You didn't deliver me the votes in Congress." The president CAN"T change laws all by himself. If the president could make change all by himself, he would have done it with this Health Care Reform, his #1 priority and we would be done with this mess. As I tell my friends, the fastest way to pas gay rights is to work hard on Obama's side to pass health care reform, then cap and trade, the immigration reform, then we will get to DADT, UAFA and DOMA. If health care reform goes down, Obama is weakened and there is no gay agenda after that. Period. If passes his 3 big priorities, he gets stronger after each one and we get our gay agenda passed. It's that simple. He campaigned at every stop on health care, energy and immigration, NOT DADT, DOMA and UAFA. He would be crucified if he skipped his top 3 platfomr items to get to DOMA, UAFA and DADT. Think about this from an average citizen's view. They outnumber us 9 to 1. My comment: One thing that would seriously hobble any president would be to have to answer to a large number of single issue constituancies. To pass national health care, Obama is going to need all of the help he can get, as well as major cajones. To read the news page of The Advocate, I get the impression that some people at The Advocate have given up on Obama as worse than hopeless, and will simply stop using his name altogether, as soon as they get around to updating the page. Of course, from what I can see, they haven't updated the page in days, or is it weeks? Namaste', Bruce Chris
