Default I find myself here again...

As I took a very short break from Soulforce, I found myself lost without it. The forums are nice when active, but I missed the organization... I miss the feel of being out there in the action with SF. I would love to go on the Equality Ride this year, but with free tuition for two years, I can't take the time off.

I took a General Studies class at the community college this week, the class teaches you how to be a successful student. Part of this includes finding what motivates you. That was when I found my heart come right back here.

I have yet to figure out what I want career wise. I know that my involvement here though, no matter how minimal, will help me through the process.

I felt like sharing this, I don't necessarily need feedback. If someone does have any insight to what this means, let me know though. What sort of job would get be here? Something dealing with nonprofits...

Welcome back. Hello, Jen. I haven't been here much lately, either.

Life goes in ebbs as well as flows, so learn to ride softly back out with the ebbs. We don't have to be active on full throttle all the time.

I'd say the Equality Ride, and other actions, are things you can apply for in a couple years' time. Then, based on your experiences with those, you would at that time have a sense of how to be more fully involved in social action. Being a student is your job for the next two years. Thrive at it, and more will come. You will feel in your bones when the time is ripe to move on to another step.

For the meantime, is there an equality organization on campus that you could be involved with?

Default Oh I don't know...

I am reading and interesting book titled Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Glibert. Have only read as far as the first 60 pages- I'll know more tomorrow when I finish the book (oh..I can read fast when I am curious). But in the meanwhile, I wonder if you might think negatively for a moment (ha!). That is, what doesn't make you happy? What don't you want to do? What business or involvement would bore you to death if you had to do it?

Most people encourage us to think about what we want, not what we don't want. But gee...I'm just throwing it out there for food for thought. Rule things out and see what is left?

The ebbs and flows gives wonderful perspective when dealing with everything.

It is hard to want to sign up for the ER and know I can't, I would be walking away from too much though. I have been reminding myself that if I still want to in a couple years, I can.

Thank you for your words they are very grounding, when so many things always feel up in the air that is very helpful. I get pressured on this 'choose a career' idea, it helps to be reminded that that really is not necessary at this point in time.

From what I can tell from a quick search, we don't have any kind of equality groups really. My school is a branch of a community college, so it's really small. I will keep my eyes open for some sort of group that fits though.

Please come back and tell me more about the book tomorrow, it sounds interesting.

I've tried ruling things out, I can easily delete about 75% of the options and the other 25% don't seem to lead me to a clear answer. I enjoy just doing the stuff I have always done to help out just office stuff, helping in the school, things like that. I like business, but not the coldness that I relate to business. I like the idea of things such as working for a nonprofit, but not the lack of income. There's time though...

Smile Welcome back

Welcome back to the family, Jen. I missed reading your posts. Once you get involved in a cause that you believe it's hard to walk away from it.

Lately I have been doing a bunch of writing. I have written prose, short stories, blogging (especially about GLBT topics), and essays. Right now it seems that it's the thing that I want to do. Once you find something it can be a vehicle to greater things.

I was never really gone and I never had any intention of really leaving. I just felt I needed distance because I was using the forums to fuel a negative way of thinking, something that I desperately needed to find a way out of. I guess that with that distance, my mind disconnected from SF altogether though and what I found was that being here was not the problem. I will try not to use this site to vent, because I need to stop feeding those negative things. I am back though because of the inspiration I find here and the love and friendship that is the energy of SF.

The forums have been slow from what I can tell, so I don't know how much I'll be here. That and I start school on the 21st. My heart is here though, once again, and I am inspired to be part of something bigger and to be a better person. I'm grateful for the friendships I make here and I look forward making more. I'll be around.

Default Jen, whatevet life puts in front of you, give it your best shot

I live on the Univ of Minn campus. Today, I saw 30 or more women in front of every sorority house on campus. It's rush week. Whaterver life puts in front of you, give it your best shot.
