Default Hello, My Name Is Vicki

I am a 56-year-old college professor and a member of an ELCA congregation. We are just beginning the Reconciliation in Christ process, after the results of the churchwide assembly in July, and I have been chosen to lead it. My older daughter is a lesbian and I want the church she grew up in and where she was confirmed to be a loving and welcoming place for her to be. I am not sure that it is.

I am afraid of what this conversation will do to my church home. It has to be done, and I am firm and confident in that. God has given me a good team to work with me. But still, I am afraid of the conflict, the fear and the predjudice that I will have to face.

Default Vicki, there is more and more evidence that sexual orientation is established

Before birth*. AND, I have never met anyone who said that it is a choice, have you? We need to get these messages out to the masses, especially the Christian masses.

*Meaning that it would have to be created within us by God. Is there any way to open the dialogue with this point? I am making it a project to gather as much research and data on this as possible, but it is slow going.

In the mean time, welcome to SoulForce, and good luck. Have your daughter comment, or she can join on her own.

Bruce Chris

Smile Welcome

Welcome to the forum, Vicki. I understand your concern but God works in ways that may not be comfortable. I believe God wants to do a new work in the church regarding GLBT people.

I'm a transgender Christian who desires to speak in churches and other groups about transgender topics. It's wonderful that you want to be an agent of change and I applaud your efforts.

Hi Vicki,

You sound determined and I believe prayer and lots of deep thinking will be a good preparation. The bottom line is, the church should welcome all, because Christ did. Be firm in your stance, but gracious. Hope it goes well!
