Hi folks, I wanted to check with you if any of you have had any dealings with exodus international From my research so far, I can see that so called 'Christians' are really judgmental and condemning against homosexuals and was wondering if these folks are different at all?

I encourage you to use the search tab located between 'new posts' and 'quick links'. Click it on, then enter the words 'exodus', 'ex-gay', 'exgay' and 'exodus international'. You will find quite a few threads devoted to your question.

You may have already learned that the founders quit the organization and became a couple?

Exodus has a long and sorry history, creating suffering, suicide and misery. All in the name of Christ.

I was a Muslim Gay man for 37 years and then became a Straight Christian man ( or so I thought ) for 22 years I have been married for the past 2o years and i have two beautiful children I have no regrets for changing my behaviour but as for the orientation I have been telling a lie to myself and others all these years and deep within I very well new that my orientation never changed, during those years I was in touch with exudus international and those people are exactly like me they have believed in a lie that jesus has changed them from homos into heteros which has never been the intention of god for going on the cross jesus gave his life on the cross to give us abundant life and he does not care what sexual orientation we have, so they say a lie but their intentions are not as bad as we think , but thanks god it is a few months, I have come to terms with my sexuality and christianity and I do not think that being a homosexual is a sin, that is the way god has created us and I hope and pray that all evangelicals and organizations like exudas understand this as well, and do not cause more problems and sense of guilt for Christian and non christian GLBT comunity

Hi, this is masood again No and hundred percent No I have never been a bisexual from the age of three I kew that i am a homosexual, but the reality is that I never accepted myself because in the religeon of Islam like every other religion Homosexuals are condemned ,at the age of of thirty seven i prayed to Jesus and I said if you give me the abiity to become a heterosexual ( meaning the ability to function sexualy with a woman, before that I could not have a sexual relationship with a woman ) I will follow you the rest of my life and the next day i somehow believed that if i get Married I will be able to function by faith I married and Yohoooo it worked I have kept my promise and i am following him but I am a hundred persent HOMOSEXUAL and my orientation has not changed a bit and not even for a day! Masood,

You are a living example of the truism first articulated (for me, anyway) in the AIDS prevention and education movement. That is:

Behavior does not equal orientation.

People in the AIDS movement learned the lesson from the opposite end of the statement when they realized that when they targeted their message to gay men they were not reaching men who consider themselves straight but who have had or continue to have sex with men. AIDS planners learned that the cultural part of orientation is totally the product of a person's self-identification.

To return to the main thread, many gay men I know are or were married, and many of us have biological children, whom we cherish as you do yours. We mostly were following society's cultural dictates. Many of us wished when we got married that it would make us straight. Most of us, I daresay, found out very quickly that it didn't. We knew in the deepest parts of our hearts that even if we remained faithful to our wives we were no less gay. The crisis for many of us has been finding a way to lived authentically without hurting the families and partners we loved.

EDIT: I apologize to the originator of the thread for continuing the drift away from the topic of ex-gay ministries or so-called reparative therapy. If I weren't at work at the moment, I would have tried to figure out how to start a new thread with the quote from Masood.
