(I should've posted this thread here, instead of in the Activism forum.)
As a matter of fact, I don't think I heard of Dr. Dobson until the same time I heard of Soulforce, during the 2007 documentary For the Bible Tells Me So. I'm glad I first learned about him through that film's plot, as opposed to Focus on the Family. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what he's responsible for.
My own parents were the first people I came out to. they were once employed by the same school district and knew plenty of gay teachers, so it was easier for them to accept than it was for Phillip and Rhandi Reitan to accept their son, Jake. They always understood that ignorance, bigotry and disownment have nothing to do with familial love.
I've been told that Dr. Dobson won't change his tune anytime soon, or likely ever. That being said, I still hold a personal position that he can be made to listen to the opposition, rather than ignoring them. He can be told either to quit broadcasting/writing to propogate destructive myths - or change his material to get behind the gay community. I've posted a video on YouTube making this point directly.

(Of course, it's likely that the only thing which would make Dobson be quiet and listen would be if Focus on the Family suddenly went bankrupt.)
