Default Anne Rice Quits Christianity

I came upon this news item at Towleroad this afternoon.

http://www.towleroad.com/2010/07/ann...positions.html

Ok. It's not earth shattering. But I find it interesting, nonetheless, that a major author is taking something of a stand against conservative Christianity- the conservative Christianity that is Republican, anti-gay, anti-feminist- anti-science etc. At least, that's how I interpret this news.

" My faith in Christ is central to my life. My conversion from a pessimistic atheist lost in a world I didn't understand, to an optimistic believer in a universe created and sustained by a loving God is crucial to me. But following Christ does not mean following His followers. Christ is infinitely more important than C...hristianity and always will be, no matter what Christianity is, has been, or might become."
Of course, you know that Rice's son is gay, right?

Default Interesting

I half-wondered what she was thinking when she announced her new-found Christianity. Especially considering some of the books she has written. Spirituality should never take a back seat to organized religion - I was glad to read this. Thanks for sharing Daniel!

I must confess to never having read one of her books all the way through. I did start one, but never finished it. Her prose was possibly the most beautiful I'd ever seen. A talented lady! So glad to have her as an ally! Seems like an awesome person.

Default Against the Christianity she's been force fed,

But in favor of the Christianity she believes in. I suspect she's doing as well as or better than most of us.

I'll gladly accept her as that, vampires and all.

That's the way I took it also, Daniel. Many believe to be a Christian you must be Republican, anti-LGBT, married, and conservative. That's what Christianity is NOT about. Wish that I could share with her what being a Christian actually is.
