Default Marriage Equality in New York!

I was watching this live as it happened last night. Apparently they've been waiting for a vote on this all week (one vote shy but fingers crossed).

Maddow went overtime last night to catch it:

According to her reporting, there's no residency requirement either. You can just go there with your partner and get married. Of course those marriage rights will only be effective in the six states where it is legel, but this is one heck of a domino to fall.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - When New York became the sixth and by far the largest state to legalize same-sex marriage, following a grueling overtime session in the state Legislature Friday, it immediately transformed the national debate over the issue, legal experts said.

With a population over 19 million -- more than the combined population of the five states that currently allow gay marriage, plus the District of Columbia, where it is also legal -- New York is poised to provide the most complete picture yet of the legal, social and economic consequences of gay marriage.

Default It Passed

Marriage equality did pass by a 33-29 vote. Three Republican senators added their names to the signers. They did the right thing.

The GENDA bill, which protect trans people, died in the senate. This is something that I must work on.
