How important is the physical aspect?

I don't know how you feel about it, but I do care about my appearance. That doesn't mean that I'm a Barbie, but I like makeup and I love buying stuff in beauty online shops. But nevertheless, I don't like people who reduce everybody to their physical aspect.
What do you think: How important is the physical aspect in our society? And: how long do friendships or relationships last that are based on physical attraction? Is it easier to get a job if you're pretty? Or can it be even harder?
